Description
The bike specialists, trading standard award winners. Bike ID: #10313 We have the pleasure of offering for sale our fantastic Yamaha RZV500R, Sporting the stunning red, white and blue livery this machine is an absolute credit to it's previous owners. This is RZV500R has been fully restored by renowned RD500 guru Ian Faulkner who has done an exceptional job with no expense spared.
Literally everything was done, barrels & cranks rebuilt using TZ bearings (they're apparently stronger) that work was done by PJ motorcycle engineers in West Mids (they're one of the best for this type of work). Ian said the engine runs like dream and is so well balanced. The Carbs were sonic cleaned, engine rebuilt, all seals replaced and engine painted.
New tyres, chain and sprockets, rear shock plus many other new OEM parts. The engine is still being run in having covered just 230 miles since rebuild. This low mileage example has covered just 17,907 kilometres (11,126 miles).
It offers an extremely rare opportunity to own a legendary 2 stroke iconic Yamaha. The bike is supplied with a file bursting with old MOT certificates, receipts, original service manual and service guide and also detailed photos of the build and will benefit from a full service and full MOT prior to sale. This iconic 2-stroke, was at the forefront in the 1980's as one of the must have GP replica bikes.
Yamaha looked at the success of the YZR500 and realised that a road-going version of this would sell well. The RD500LC YPVS was bred from the ground-up to be a race replica, and it was absolutely focused in its mission. Everything was lightened and stripped down for performance.
People were in love with the 2 stroke V4 and Yamaha really hit the nail on the head with this motorcycle. 2 strokes don't get much better than this, and our example offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to own what must be, in our opinion, the best example of this 80's dream bike for sale in the world. We are a family-owned company who pride ourselves on the quality of our Motorcycles and all of them are carefully chosen, handpicked enthusiast pre-owned examples that are always HPI Clear for your peace of mind. We offer all the usual Motorcycle Dealer facilities such as Low-rate finance and extended warranties and operate a no pressure environment where you can relax and enjoy good old-fashioned service with a smile.
We have just upgraded our Indoor Showroom where you can see Motorcycles you sometimes can only dream of seeing and sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves when we get certain bikes in as we would like to keep them all! We cater for very specialist tastes and can source rare and coveted bikes that we do not have in stock and have lots of contacts throughout the world.

Common Issues to Check
- Engine Condition: Pay close attention to the V4 two-stroke engine for signs of wear, especially top-end rebuild history, crank bearing noise, and overall compression; these engines require meticulous care.
- Exhaust System Integrity: The complex quad exhaust system is prone to rust, dents, and damage; replacements are very expensive and hard to find, so inspect thoroughly.
- Frame and Chassis: Inspect for crash damage, rust, particularly around welds and mounting points, and ensure the suspension and brakes are in good working order for safety and handling.
- Electrical Gremlins: Age can lead to wiring loom degradation, connection issues, and unreliable components; check all lights, gauges, and the charging system thoroughly.
- Parts Availability: As a rare classic, many original parts are no longer available new, requiring specialist knowledge, second-hand sourcing, or custom fabrication, which can be costly.
Running Costs
- Fuel Economy: 25-35 mpg (two-strokes are notoriously thirsty, especially when ridden hard, meaning frequent fuel stops).
- Insurance Group: High (Specialist classic bike insurance is almost always required due to its value, age, and performance characteristics).
- Servicing: Requires specialist knowledge and care; frequent two-stroke oil changes, plug replacements, and potential top-end rebuilds are more involved and costly than modern bikes.
Which Variant Should I Choose?
- UK-Spec (47X): The most common for the UK market, offering an authentic RZ500 experience with period-correct specification. Ideal for purists who want a straightforward, UK-registered classic motorcycle.
- Japanese Import (RZV500R): Often features a lighter aluminium frame, a dry clutch, and subtle specification differences, appealing to those seeking a slightly more exotic or higher-spec version, though UK registration may require extra checks.
- Professionally Restored: For buyers who prioritise a 'turn-key' classic, where the significant time and expense of restoration have already been undertaken by specialists. These command a premium but offer greater peace of mind regarding condition.
