Description

This is a very low mileage and low owner 16v Model. An appealing and quirky Sports Coupe from the Italians, this three owner from new Coupe has been well looked after. The interior is in good with full black leather seats.

First launched at the Brussels motor show in 1993, and was notable for its striking Chris Bangle-penned body styling and beautiful Pininfarina interior. It was based on the Fiat Tipo platform, and like all of its sisters, was great to drive, with excellent road handling and incisive steering…. but with much more vroom and individual looks. The service history is metronomic, and the car has done on average no more than 2000 miles every year, yet has always been serviced.

Service history: 3661 miles 5419 miles 7018 miles 8609 miles 10967 miles 13302 miles 15338 miles 17568 miles 19960 miles 22193 miles 24395 miles 26135 miles 27879 miles 28908 miles 29170 miles 30, 000 miles The cambelt was done in July 2007 at 7000 miles Car comes with handbooks, service book and various maintenance documentation. It will also be supplied with new MOT and level/ oils service

About the Fiat Coupe

The Fiat Coupe is an undeniably distinctive and charismatic two-door sports car produced from 1993 to 2000. Renowned for its bold, 'razor blade' exterior styling by Chris Bangle at Fiat's Centro Stile and a unique Pininfarina-designed interior, it stands out from the crowd. It appeals to driving enthusiasts, those seeking a future classic, and anyone who appreciates unconventional Italian flair and engaging performance, particularly in its potent 20v Turbo guise. In the UK, it developed a strong following for its individuality and raw driving character.

Why Buy a Used Fiat Coupe?

  • Its iconic and unconventional design ensures it still turns heads today, offering a unique aesthetic in a world of increasingly similar cars.
  • Offers accessible performance, especially the highly regarded 20v Turbo models, which provide exhilarating acceleration for a relatively modest outlay.
  • The Fiat Coupe is increasingly recognised as a modern classic, with well-maintained examples holding or appreciating in value, making it a sound enthusiast investment.
  • Provides an engaging and visceral driving experience, especially on twisty B-roads, with direct steering and a lively chassis that connects the driver to the road.

Typical Price Range

All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.

  • 1995–1998: £3,000 – £9,000 — Entry-level models, often needing some cosmetic or mechanical attention, or solid early examples in fair condition.
  • 1998–2000: £8,000 – £18,000 — Good condition naturally aspirated models or strong, well-maintained 20v Turbo variants representing excellent value.
  • 2000–2001: £17,000 – £35,000+ — Premium, low mileage, or meticulously restored examples of the most sought-after variants, including the rare Limited Edition and Plus models.

Common Issues to Check

  • **Rust:** Inspect sills, wheel arches, rear subframe mounts, and suspension top mounts thoroughly, as corrosion can be a significant issue.
  • **Timing Belt & Auxiliary Belt:** Critical on 20v engines; ensure the timing belt, auxiliary belt, and all tensioners have been replaced within the recommended intervals (usually 3 years or 36,000 miles).
  • **Suspension Components:** Worn front wishbone bushes, shock absorbers, and anti-roll bar linkages are common, leading to knocking noises and vague handling.
  • **Electrical Gremlins:** Check for malfunctioning central locking, electric windows, climate control issues, and dashboard warning lights.
  • **Turbocharger Health (20v Turbo models):** Listen for excessive turbo whine, check for smoke from the exhaust (blue/white), and inspect for oil leaks around the turbocharger unit and associated pipework.

Running Costs

  • Fuel Economy: 22-35 mpg (highly dependent on engine variant and driving style, with 20v Turbo being at the lower end).
  • Insurance Group: 25-40 (varies significantly by engine, with the 20v Turbo models typically in the higher groups).
  • Servicing: Regular maintenance is crucial, especially for timely cambelt changes on 20v engines. Parts availability is generally good, but specialist labour for specific mechanical or electrical issues might be required.

Which Variant Should I Choose?

  • 1.8 16v / 2.0 16v: Ideal for those who desire the iconic styling and fun handling without the higher running costs and intensity of the turbocharged models.
  • 2.0 20v (non-turbo): Offers a wonderfully smooth, characterful five-cylinder engine note and decent performance, making it a great daily driver or enthusiast car with a good balance.
  • 2.0 20v Turbo: The quintessential Coupe, delivering thrilling performance, a fantastic soundtrack, and strong tuning potential; perfect for the performance enthusiast.
  • 2.0 20v Turbo Plus / Limited Edition: The ultimate collector's choice, featuring enhanced specifications such as Brembo brakes and unique interior touches; highly sought after for rarity and exclusivity.
