Description

This 2013 Kawasaki ZX-10R is the bike that finally saw Kawasaki throw everything at the litre-class superbike fight, and it's still a seriously fast, seriously capable machine. The 998cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline four produces a claimed 197-200 bhp at the crank with 114Nm of torque, revving hard to a 13,000rpm redline through a slick six-speed box with a slipper clutch. It's savagely quick, with a top speed north of 180mph, and demands respect.

What set this generation apart was the electronics. It was the first Japanese sportsbike with proper sport-focused traction control, Kawasaki's S-KTRC, which makes hundreds of calculations a second from wheel-speed, engine-speed and throttle sensors and can even distinguish controllable wheelies from dangerous ones, letting you ride faster rather than just reining you in. Add three rider-selectable power modes and the option of KIBS intelligent ABS and it was the most intelligent Kawasaki street bike of its day.

This Ninja features Leo Vince SBK carbon tip exhaust, SP Evotech tail tidy, tinted double bubble screen, adjustable levers, engine covers, crash bungs, braided hoses, two keys, owners manual and service book with four stamps in the book. || At Superbike Specialists, we offer a top selection of HPI-clear used motorcycles (unless stated). Our bikes are mechanically prepared by passionate onsite mechanics, with a focus on exceptional customer service. Every bike includes a 30-day warranty, with options to extend to 6 or 12 months, a minimum of 6 months MOT, and a fresh service.

UK mainland delivery starts at £50. Competitive finance and card payments are accepted. We are also an authorised Scorpion Datatool dealer, offering fully fitted S5 Thatcham-approved trackers from £299. ||

Common Issues

The ZX-10R is generally a very reliable superbike, benefiting from Kawasaki's robust engineering. However, like any high-performance machine, some points to consider on used models include:

  • Clutch Wear: Heavy track use or aggressive riding can lead to premature clutch wear. Check for slipping.
  • Chain and Sprockets: Regular maintenance is crucial. Worn chains and sprockets are common on high-mileage or heavily used bikes.
  • Tyre Wear: Superbike tyres wear quickly, especially with spirited riding. Factor in the cost of replacements.
  • Fairing Damage: Minor cosmetic damage from dropped bikes or storage incidents can occur.
  • Servicing Records: Ensure the bike has a full service history, especially for valve clearances and oil changes.

Running Costs

Owning a ZX-10R involves costs commensurate with its performance class:

  • Insurance: Expect higher insurance premiums due to the bike's performance and category.
  • Tyres: High-performance tyres will need regular replacement, with a set costing £300-£500+.
  • Fuel: With a 17-litre tank and thirst for revs, expect fuel consumption of around 35-45 mpg depending on riding style.
  • Servicing: Regular scheduled maintenance is essential to keep the engine in top condition.
  • Parts: Spare parts can be expensive, especially specialised electronic components or engine internals.

Variants

Kawasaki has offered several notable variants of the ZX-10R over the years:

  • ZX-10R (Standard): The core model, offering a superb balance of performance and technology.
  • ZX-10RR: A homologation special for racing, featuring a higher-revving engine, lighter components, and enhanced suspension, typically with a slightly higher price tag and limited production.
  • ZX-10R SE: A special edition often featuring electronic suspension and unique colour schemes, offering a step up in technology over the standard model.
