About the Hyundai I800

The Hyundai i800 is a truly capacious and practical 8-seater MPV, renowned for its no-nonsense approach to moving large families or groups of people. With its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and robust build quality, it offers an excellent value proposition for those needing genuine seating capacity without the fuss. It's a popular choice among larger families, shuttle services, and those requiring ample cargo space, establishing a solid reputation in the UK market as a reliable and affordable workhorse.

Why Buy a Used Hyundai i800?

  • Exceptional interior space, comfortably accommodating eight adults and luggage, making it ideal for large families or commercial use.
  • Strong value for money on the used market, offering significant savings compared to a new large MPV or van-derived people carrier.
  • Reliable and durable 2.5-litre diesel engine, known for its longevity when properly maintained, ideal for high mileage applications.
  • Practical and versatile cabin layout, often featuring sliding rear doors for easy access in tight spaces and flexible seating configurations.

Typical Price Range

All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.

  • 2010–2014: £6,500 – £11,000 — At this price point, you’ll find earlier models with higher mileage, offering a budget-friendly entry into large-capacity transport.
  • 2015–2018: £11,000 – £16,500 — These models represent a good balance of age and condition, often with mid-range mileage and modernised interior features.
  • 2019–2022: £16,500 – £23,000 — Expect lower mileage examples from recent years, possibly with the remainder of a manufacturer warranty, providing excellent peace of mind.

Common Issues to Check

  • Interior Wear and Tear: Inspect seats, carpets, and plastics, especially if the vehicle has been used for taxi or large family duties, as heavy use can lead to significant wear.
  • Sliding Door Mechanism: Check for smooth operation of both sliding rear doors, listening for any grinding noises and ensuring they latch securely.
  • Suspension Components: Due to its size and potential for carrying heavy loads, inspect bushes, shock absorbers, and springs for wear, especially the rear.
  • Brake System Condition: Given the vehicle's weight, brakes can wear quickly; check discs and pads for excessive wear or uneven scoring.
  • DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter): As most i800s are diesel, ensure the DPF light isn't on and inquire about its service history, as city driving can cause blockages.

Running Costs

  • Fuel Economy: 30 – 38 mpg (2.5 CRDi diesel).
  • Insurance Group: 18 – 25 (typically for 2.5 CRDi variants).
  • Servicing: Generally affordable for a vehicle of its size, with good access to parts and competent servicing available at both main dealers and independent garages.

Which Variant Should I Choose?

  • i800 SE: This is the standard, well-equipped model that most buyers will encounter, offering excellent value and all the essential features for comfortable family or group transport.
  • i800 Premium: If you desire a few more creature comforts, the Premium trim often adds features like leather steering wheel, climate control, and improved infotainment, making longer journeys more pleasant.
  • 2.5 CRDi (136PS vs 170PS): While the engine is generally the same, later models or specific markets offered different power outputs. The higher 170PS version offers slightly more effortless performance, especially when fully loaded, without a huge penalty in fuel economy.
