What to Look For When Buying a Used Arona
When inspecting a used SEAT Arona, pay attention to the following:
- Service History: A full and well-stamped service history is crucial. Ensure it's been serviced according to SEAT's recommendations, especially for the DSG automatic gearboxes if applicable.
- Bodywork: Check for any signs of rust, dents, or uneven paintwork that might indicate past accident damage.
- Interior: Inspect the seats, carpets, and headliner for wear and tear, especially if it's been used as a family car.
- Tyres: Check the condition and tread depth of all four tyres.
- Electronics: Test all electrical components, including the infotainment system, air conditioning, electric windows, and lights.
- Engine Noise: Listen for any unusual noises from the engine when starting and running.
SEAT Arona Running Costs
The SEAT Arona is generally considered an economical car to run. Its compact size and efficient engines contribute to good fuel economy. Typical running costs depend on your annual mileage, insurance group, and servicing schedule.
- Fuel: Petrol models typically return combined fuel economy figures in the region of 45-55 mpg, depending on the engine and driving style.
- Insurance: Insurance groups vary depending on the trim and engine, but generally fall into the mid-range for this type of vehicle.
- Road Tax (VED): For vehicles registered before April 2017, VED is based on CO2 emissions. For vehicles registered after April 2017, a flat annual rate applies (currently £180 for petrol/diesel, but check current government rates).
- Servicing: Regular servicing is recommended, with costs typically competitive with other cars in its class.
Common SEAT Arona Issues
While the SEAT Arona is generally a reliable vehicle, like any car, it can experience some common issues. Being aware of these can help you during your inspection:
- DSG Gearbox: Some owners have reported minor issues with the DSG automatic gearbox, such as occasional hesitation or rough shifting at low speeds. A thorough test drive is essential.
- Infotainment Glitches: Occasional software bugs or frozen screens on the infotainment system have been reported. Ensure the system is responsive during your viewing.
- Wear and Tear: As with many compact SUVs used in urban environments, look for signs of wear on suspension components and brakes.
- Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Issues: For diesel models (less common now), ensure they have been driven regularly on longer journeys to prevent DPF clogging.
