Vehicle Specifications
Description
Renault Clio 2.0 16v Renaultsport 172 3dr (HY03ZGJ) for sale with 110,000 miles. 2003/03 plate. Manual. Petrol.
Finished in black. £2,000 - no offers. Clio 172 track car - heavily upgraded - owned by us for a long time. We have owned this Clio for a long time and built/used it as a track-day car.
It has been great fun, but unfortunately we simply do not have the time for track days anymore, so we have decided to sell it. A proper Renaultsport Clio 172 track-focused build with a long list of upgrades. Lightweight, responsive and great fun to drive, ideal for track days, sprint use or as a project for a Renaultsport enthusiast.
Upgrades include: - Clio 182 gearbox fitted within the last 100 miles - Clio 182 shocks - Upgraded lowered fast-road & track springs - OMP front strut brace - OMP rear strut brace - Rear axle anti-roll linkage - Full K-Tec resonated decat sports exhaust - K&N induction kit - Upgraded K-Tec engine mounts - Upgraded K-Tec gearbox mount - Cobra bucket seats - Roll cage - OMP steering wheel - K-Tec 20mm wheel spacers - Clio 182 alloy wheels - Door cards and rear cards - K-Tec Racing boot mat - K-Tec Racing Stage 2 remap with increased rev limiter - Upgraded K-Tec Racing drilled brake discs - Upgraded brake pads - Weight reduction We still have the passenger seat available with the car. We also have additional parts/spares available separately at extra cost, including air-conditioning delete components and other parts. These can be discussed with the buyer.
BAD POINTS: Alloy wheels have scratches. Driver's door has a scratch caused by a loose outdoor car cover which went unnoticed for a period of time. IMPORTANT: The car is currently set up as a TRACK CAR and is NOT ROAD LEGAL in its present configuration due to the decat exhaust.
A road-legal catalytic converter/exhaust system would need to be fitted and the vehicle would need to meet all applicable MOT and road-use requirements before being used on the road. A genuine enthusiast-owned Clio 172 with a substantial amount of track-focused equipment already fitted. Great opportunity .

What to Look For When Buying a Used Clio
When inspecting a used Renault Clio, consider the following:
- Service History: Ensure the car has been regularly serviced, ideally by a Renault specialist or main dealer.
- Bodywork and Interior: Check for any signs of accident damage, rust (especially around wheel arches and sills), and excessive wear and tear on seats, carpets, and controls.
- Tyres and Brakes: Examine the condition of the tyres for even wear and adequate tread depth. Check if the brakes feel responsive and don't make abnormal noises.
- Electronics: Test all electrics, including windows, mirrors, infotainment system, air conditioning, and lights.
- Engine and Drivetrain: Listen for any unusual noises from the engine, check for smoke from the exhaust, and ensure smooth gear changes.
Running Costs and Common Issues
Running Costs
The Renault Clio is generally considered an economical car to run. Fuel efficiency is a strong point, particularly with the TCe petrol engines and dCi diesel options (where applicable). Insurance groups are typically low to moderate, making it an affordable option for young drivers. Road tax will depend on the age and CO2 emissions of the specific model. Servicing costs are competitive, especially when using independent garages or looking for deals at main dealers.
Common Issues
While generally reliable, like any car, Clios can have a few common quirks:
- Electrical Gremlins: Some older models might experience minor electrical issues, such as with the central locking or infotainment system.
- Suspension Noise: Occasionally, suspension components can develop knocks or rattles, particularly on Mk3 and Mk4 models.
- Clutch Wear: High mileage or aggressive driving can lead to premature clutch wear on manual transmissions.
- DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel): On some diesel models, the DMF can fail, leading to vibrations and noise.
Regular maintenance and addressing minor issues promptly can help prevent more significant problems down the line.
