Description
Hello and welcome to the listing of Our super rare Lotus Elise S Series 2. This fully HPI clear example has the very rare and desireable Essex Autosport 2.0 Duratec conversion costing approx £4000 transforming this ultra light weight iconic sports car in to a super quick and roar road legal gokart. Absolutley amazing condition on the interior and exterior and finished in stunning Magnetic blue paintwork.
A absolutely huge file around 3 inches thick of invoices proving a stupendous caring ownership throughout. Not only does this example look incredible but also sounds superb due to its Edwards bespoke stainless system too. We have just fitted a Brand new Pioneer Bluetooth single din unit to allow calls and streaming of your phones music too.
I have personally always wanted one of these super little rockets and can now see why so many desire this experience after driving one. Its goto be the closest you will get to a roadbike experience weighing just over 700KG and producing a dyno proven 185bhp😁🏎️. We find cars of today are boring and even those of high performance pedigree are still not as exciting as previous generations as most of the driving is done for you by driving aids etc and exhaust sounds produced through a fake speaker etc🫢🤣.
The experience in this stunner is certainly unique due to NO Abs,esp, pas or any safety aids what so ever! This really is a road legal Go Kart and is super quick bearing in mind the chassis is alloy and the shell is fiberglass producing a crazy power to weight ratio. Please dont compare to other neglected and rough examples this really is a stunning example ready to enjoy and probably been on most people's bucket list for some time.
NO Test drives permitted unless intention of purchase and proof of funds. Due to the vehicle age, pedigree and nature IE- a track car etc. Most other garages wont provide a warranty on these how ever we are willing to cover the engine and gearbox parts only for one month.

About the Lotus Elise
The Lotus Elise is an iconic British sports car renowned for its 'less is more' philosophy. Launched in 1996, it’s celebrated for its lightweight aluminium chassis, exceptional handling, and pure, unadulterated driving experience. It’s a minimalist machine designed to connect the driver directly with the road, appealing primarily to driving enthusiasts, track day participants, and those who prioritise agility and feedback over luxury and brute power. In the UK market, the Elise holds a legendary status as a true driver's car, maintaining strong demand and value due to its unique character and heritage.
Why Buy a Used Lotus Elise?
- Unmatched Driving Purity: A used Elise offers an engaging, unassisted driving experience that’s increasingly rare in modern cars, providing unparalleled feedback and a direct connection to the road.
- Strong Residual Values: Thanks to its cult status and limited production numbers, the Elise tends to hold its value exceptionally well, making it a sound investment for enthusiasts.
- Lightweight Agility: Its renowned lightweight construction (under 900kg for many variants) translates to incredible agility, blistering acceleration (even with modest power), and phenomenal cornering capabilities.
- Iconic British Heritage: Owning an Elise means owning a piece of British automotive history, a car celebrated globally for its innovative engineering and driver-focused design.
Typical Price Range
All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.
- 2000–2005 (Series 2 K-Series/early Toyota): £15,000 – £25,000 — At this price point, you’re looking at well-cared-for early Series 2 models, often with the reliable Rover K-Series engine or the initial Toyota 1ZZ power plant, offering classic Elise dynamics.
- 2006–2012 (Series 2 Toyota 111R/R/SC): £22,000 – £35,000 — This range covers the more powerful Toyota 2ZZ-GE engined models (111R/R) and some early supercharged (SC) variants, offering increased performance and a slightly more refined interior.
- 2013–2020 (Series 3 Sport/Cup models): £30,000 – £50,000+ — These later Series 3 cars, including Sport and Cup editions, benefit from updated styling, improved aerodynamics, and often higher power outputs, representing the pinnacle of Elise development.
Common Issues to Check
- Front Clam Damage: The fibreglass 'clamshell' bodywork, particularly the front, is prone to stone chips and minor damage, so check for cracks, repairs, or poor paintwork.
- Suspension Bushes and Ball Joints: Due to its firm suspension and driver-focused nature, these components can wear, leading to knocking noises or imprecise handling; check for play during a test drive.
- Radiator Corrosion: The front-mounted radiator is exposed and can corrode over time, leading to leaks or overheating issues, especially on older models.
- Electrics (Minor): While generally reliable, some minor electrical gremlins can occur, such as faulty window switches, dash warning lights, or intermittent sensor issues.
- Bonded Chassis Integrity: The aluminium chassis is bonded together. While incredibly strong, inspect for any signs of accident repair, especially around the suspension pick-up points, as significant damage can be costly to rectify.
Running Costs
- Fuel Economy: 30–40 mpg (Toyota 1.8-litre engines)
- Insurance Group: 35–45+ (varies significantly by variant and engine)
- Servicing: Routine servicing by a Lotus specialist is generally reasonable, but replacement parts can be niche and sometimes expensive. An annual service is essential to maintain performance and reliability.
Which Variant Should I Choose?
- Elise S1 (Rover K-Series): The purest and most lightweight original experience, ideal for collectors and purists seeking the unadulterated 'back to basics' driving feel.
- Elise S2 111S (Rover K-Series): Offers a good balance of performance and accessibility with the earlier Rover engine, a great entry point into Series 2 ownership for those wanting character.
- Elise S2 111R / R (Toyota 2ZZ-GE): Features the revvy and reliable Toyota 1.8-litre VVTL-i engine, providing more accessible performance and better everyday usability, perfect for those wanting a more modern drive.
- Elise S2 Supercharged (Toyota 2ZZ-GE SC): For serious performance enthusiasts, the supercharged variants offer significantly more power and blistering acceleration, transforming the Elise into a genuine giant-killer on track or road.
- Elise S3 Sport 220: A fantastic all-rounder from the later generation, combining modern refinements, improved aerodynamics, and a potent supercharged Toyota engine for a thrilling and comfortable experience.
