Description
A lovely slice of classic Americana. This is a Chevrolet C10 Short bed truck with a V8 and automatic transimission. It's a California state truck, is very solid and rust and rot free as such, and was imported approx 4 years ago only.
It has a fabulous patina which needs to be seen to be appreciated, and drives beautifully. There are no adverse oil leaks etc, it really is as dry as a bone. Any serious enquiries please do give us a call.
I'd be happy to chat.
About the CHEVROLET C10
The Chevrolet C10 pickup is an enduring American icon that has found a dedicated following among classic vehicle enthusiasts in the UK. Renowned for its timeless styling, robust construction, and immense customisation potential, the C10 transcends its original workhorse roots to become a highly sought-after collectible and cruiser. Whether you're after a faithful restoration, a custom "restomod" project, or simply a head-turning classic, the C10 offers a distinctive presence on British roads, appealing to those who appreciate vintage American automotive culture and a vehicle that stands out from the crowd.
Why Buy a Used Chevrolet C10?
- Iconic Classic Style: The C10's distinctive lines, particularly from the "Action Line" (1967-1972) and "Square Body" (1973-1987) generations, offer an undeniable retro appeal that sets it apart.
- Immense Customisation Potential: From lowering kits and engine swaps to unique paint jobs and interior upgrades, the C10 is a blank canvas for personal expression, with a vast aftermarket.
- Robust and Simple Mechanics: Many C10s feature straightforward V8 engines and durable chassis, making them relatively easy to maintain for those with mechanical aptitude or access to specialist workshops.
- Strong Community and Collectability: A passionate global and growing UK community supports C10 ownership, offering a wealth of knowledge, parts, and a strong long-term appeal for collectors.
Typical Price Range
All prices are approximate and subject to change based on condition, mileage, specification, and market conditions.
- Pre-1972 (Project/Runner): £10,000 – £20,000 — At this price, you'll likely find a project vehicle needing significant restoration or a rough-and-ready runner that could benefit from extensive work.
- 1973–1987 (Good Driver): £18,000 – £35,000 — This range typically covers well-maintained "Square Body" examples or earlier models in solid, roadworthy condition, perhaps with some minor modifications.
- Highly Restored/Custom Builds: £35,000 – £70,000+ — Expect meticulously restored or heavily customised trucks, often with modern drivetrain swaps, upgraded interiors, and show-quality finishes.
Common Issues to Check
- Rust: Critical areas include cab corners, floor pans, sills, bed floors, inner wings, and the chassis itself, especially on un-restored imports from less dry climates.
- Engine and Transmission Health: Look for oil leaks, unusual noises, smoke from the exhaust, and smooth gear changes, especially if it's an older automatic unit.
- Suspension and Steering Wear: Check for worn bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, and play in the steering box, particularly on trucks that have been lowered or heavily modified.
- Electrical System: Older wiring can be brittle or poorly maintained; check all lights, gauges, and accessories, and look for signs of previous amateur wiring repairs.
- Brakes: Ensure the braking system is adequate for UK roads, as many original C10s came with drum brakes; check for spongy pedal feel, pulling, or uneven wear if upgraded to discs.
Running Costs
- Fuel Economy: 10–18 mpg (typically for V8 models, depending on engine size and tune)
- Insurance Group: Specialist classic car insurance is required, with premiums varying based on agreed value, mileage, and driver history.
- Servicing: Relatively simple mechanically, but finding parts may involve imports from the US. Regular maintenance is key, and specialist American vehicle mechanics are recommended.
Which Variant Should I Choose?
- Short Bed (Stepside or Fleetside): Generally preferred for aesthetics and custom builds, offering a more compact and sportier look.
- Long Bed (Fleetside): Offers greater practicality for hauling and is often a more cost-effective entry point into C10 ownership.
- Small Block V8 (e.g., 305/350 cui): The most common and versatile engine choice, offering a balance of power, sound, and relative reliability for cruising.
- Pre-1972 "Action Line": Highly prized for its classic design, often commanding higher prices for well-preserved examples due to its iconic status.
- 1973-1987 "Square Body": Offers a slightly more modern driving feel and is a popular base for customisation, often representing better value for money.
- LS-Swapped/Modern Drivetrain: For those prioritising modern reliability, performance, and improved fuel economy without sacrificing classic looks.
