Specifications

The T100 has seen engine size and certain technical revisions over its lifespan. Here are typical specifications for recent models:

  • Engine: 900cc (or 865cc pre-2016) parallel-twin, liquid-cooled (later models) / air-cooled (earlier models)
  • Power: Approx. 55-65 bhp
  • Torque: Approx. 59-80 Nm
  • Gearbox: 5-speed (pre-2016) / 6-speed (2016 onwards)
  • Fueling: Keihin or Mitsubishi EFI
  • Brakes: Disc front and rear, ABS equipped on later models
  • Suspension: Telescopic forks, twin rear shock absorbers
  • Seat Height: Approx. 790mm
  • Weight: Approx. 210-220 kg (kerb weight)

Common Issues

The Bonneville T100 is generally a very well-built and reliable motorcycle, especially the later models. However, like any used vehicle, minor issues can arise:

  • Pre-2016 Models (865cc): Occasional reports of regulator/rectifier failure, though not widespread. Check for any warning lights.
  • Corrosion: Pay attention to chrome parts (exhausts, engine casings, mirrors) for any signs of rust or pitting, particularly on bikes that haven't been meticulously maintained or stored.
  • Clutch Feel: Some riders report a slightly heavy clutch, though this is more a characteristic than a fault. Ensure it operates smoothly.
  • Electrical Gremlins: Rare, but check all lights, indicators, and the horn function.

Running Costs

The T100 is commendably economical to run:

  • Fuel Economy: Expect around 50-60 mpg depending on riding style.
  • Insurance: Group 9-11 typically, making it reasonably affordable for most riders.
  • Servicing: Annual or every 6,000-10,000 miles (check manual). Costs are moderate, with specialist Triumph dealers or independent garages capable of the work.
  • Tyres: Typically Metzeler Tourance or similar, offering good mileage and grip. Replacement costs are standard for the tyre size.
  • Tax: Varies by year of manufacture, but generally in the lower Band A-D for newer bikes.

Variants

While the core T100 remains, Triumph has offered several variations and special editions over the years:

  • T100 (Standard): The archetypal Bonneville, focused on classic styling and relaxed riding.
  • T100 Black: Features a darker, more contemporary aesthetic with blacked-out engine covers, wheels, and exhaust.
  • Steve McQueen Edition: A limited edition paying homage to the movie star, featuring unique styling cues and graphics.
  • Previous Generations: Look out for the 865cc models pre-2016, which offer a slightly different character and are generally more affordable.

Regardless of the specific variant, the T100 provides a charming and accessible entry into the world of classic-style motorcycling.
